On the bright side everything else looks really good. The cylinder bore is smooth, with almost no detectable wear. All the bits (connecting rod bearings, piston wrist pin) look to be in great shape, this is looking like it will be an easy rebuild after all.
Amazing progress Rich. Thanks for all the pics and the description. It does look to be in very good shape when in pieces and open. So lucky you are doing this rebuild and have such knowledge of the engine type.
If that exhaust valve is the only major piece needing repair it will be such a great deal that you found this baby looking for a new home. This summer I can test it's hauling limit with some big timbers out of the woods as I begin to clear paths and collect logs. Exciting.
Thanks! I'm waiting to get some prices for the valve and so on, should be less than $100 for all the parts I would think. New valve will require some machining that I can't do myself, probably $50 or less I would guess. Stay tuned!
